Gustaf Adolf Mankell
Gustaf Adolf Mankell (born May 20, 1812 in Christiansfeld , † March 23, 1880 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish composer, organist and music teacher.
Life
The son of the composer and instrument maker Johan Herman Mankel went to Sweden like his brother Carl Abraham Mankell and in 1833 became a piano teacher in Stockholm. In 1835 he passed the organist examination at the Royal Academy of Music , where he taught as a teacher from 1853 and as a professor of organ playing from 1859.
Since 1835 Mankell was also organist at the Jakobskyrkan , where he gave historical and improvisational concerts . Between 1850 and 1880 he worked as an organ construction inspector. In this capacity, he managed, among other things, the construction of the Marcussen organ in the Herrnhuter Church in Christiansfeld.
Mankell wrote arrangements of works by other composers for the organ and composed some of his own organ pieces.
