Philipp Ludwig Adam

Philipp Ludwig Adam (born March 11, 1813 in Ulm , † March 23, 1893 in Munich ) was a German entrepreneur and politician.

Life

Philipp Ludwig Adam attended secondary school and grammar school in Ulm. He studied from 1831 to 1835 philosophy and law in Würzburg , Berlin , Heidelberg and Tübingen , where he in 1834 to Dr. phil. PhD. He then worked as a lawyer . From 1841 he was the owner of the Stettin'schen Verlag bookstore in Ulm as a bookseller and publisher . He married Emilie Philippine Ida Sick from Speyer , who was accepted into Ulm's citizenship on the occasion of their wedding in 1844. The archivist and librarian Albert Eugen Adam was their son.

Adam founded and directed the Danube Steamship Company in Ulm. From 1849 to 1875 he was, together with the businessman Georg Friedrich Kiderlen, a personal partner in the savings and credit association in Ulm, which earned him the title of commercial councilor . In addition, Adam was strongly integrated into the club life in Ulm, among other things in the civil society , in the gymnastics club , in the association for art and antiquity and in the national constitutional association . During this time he was a member of the board of directors of the Wuerttemberg Großdeutschen Verein , member of the building section of the Ulm Münsterbauverein , board member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ulm, chairman of the Ulm trade association and many other bodies.

After his bankruptcy in 1875 following the collapse of the Württembergische Commissionsbank, Adam moved to Munich in 1876, where he became the owner of a directory publisher in 1879.

From 1838 to 1871 Adam was a member of the citizens' committee and the municipal council of Ulm. In 1841 he temporarily ended his mandate in protest against the election of a city council for life, which earned him a fine.

In 1848 he became a member of the second chamber of the Württemberg state parliament , of which he was a member until 1849. From April 30, 1849 to May 30, 1849 Adam was a member of the crumbling Frankfurt National Assembly for one month as the successor to Conrad Haßler as a non-attached member of his home constituency, the 2nd Danube District.
