Papken I. Guleserian (born March 23, 1868 in Aintab , † 1936 in Antelias) was Catholicos coadjutor of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church .

Life

The son of Avedik and Sophia (Nazarian) Guleserian went to school in the hometown of Aintab and then entered the theological seminary in Armash near İzmit . He was ordained a priest in June 1895 and became Wardapet in October 1897 , later abbot of the Armash monastery for two years . In 1909 he became the head of the Armenian Diocese of Angora (now Ankara) ordered and 1910 in Echmiadzin for Bishop ordained. Due to illness he traveled to the USA in 1914 and thus escaped genocide from 1915 to 1918. From 1925 to 1930 he taught theology at the Spiritual Academy of the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem . In support of the elderly Catholic Sahag II. Khabayan of Cilicia, he was elected coadjutor in summer 1928 and consecrated Catholicos on April 26, 1931 in Aleppo . From 1927 to 1939 he was the editor of the Armenian magazine “Sion” (Սիոն), which was published in Jerusalem. The reorganization of the expelled Cilician Catholics in Antelias near Beirut from 1930 onwards is primarily due to his drive .
