Life

Giacomo Cozzarelli (also Iacopo or Jacopo Cozzarello) was born in Siena as the son of Bartolomeo di Marco and was the brother of Battista Cozzarelli and the cousin of Guidoccio Cozzarelli .

In 1470 he worked as a bronze caster with Antonio Federighi , whom he assisted in creating the roof structure of the Cappella di Piazza at the Palazzo Pubblico on the Piazza del Campo . He was closely connected to Francesco di Giorgio , first as a student, then as a colleague and friend . With him he went to Urbino in 1477 , where he worked with di Giorgio in the Palazzo Ducale , among other places . They stayed a total of twelve years and returned to Siena in 1489. From 1495 onwards he worked for a year as a military architect for the Senes Republic and built the fortifications of Montepulciano for them. He then devoted himself to the Basilica dell'Osservanza in Siena with Francesco di Giorgio , which was expanded on behalf of Pandolfo Petrucci . The family grave of the Petruccis was created here by Cozzarelli, and he contributed significantly to other rooms. Around 1507, the year the rector of the Santa Maria della Scala Hospital in Siena, Tondi died, he erected his tomb in the atrio of Santa Maria. For Pandolfo Petrucci he also created the architectural drawings for the Palazzo del Magnifico ( Palazzo Petrucci in today's Via dei Pellegrini in Siena), which was completed in 1509 and the church of Chiesa di Santa Maria Maddalena fuori Porta Tufi , which was built in 1526 during an uprising against the Heirs of the Petrucci family was destroyed.

In private life was married to Monna Alessandra in second marriage. He died in Siena in 1515 and was buried in the crypt of the Basilica dell'Osservanza in Siena.
