Otto Taschenberg

Ernst Otto Wilhelm Taschenberg (born March 23, 1854 in Zahna ; † March 30, 1922 in Halle ) was a German scientist and professor at the University of Halle-Wittenberg .

Life

Taschenberg was born in the Prussian province of Saxony . He studied in Leipzig and Halle science and in 1877 in Halle with a thesis on anatomy, histology and systematics of Cylicozoa Leuckart, an order of the Hydrozoa doctorate . In 1879, only two years later, the habilitation followed on the topic of Further contributions to the knowledge of ectoparasitic marine trematodes .

From 1887 Taschenberg published the bibliography Bibliotheca Zoologica . Taschenberg also worked as an expert in the field of pest control. In 1911 he was appointed full honorary professor for systematic zoology, entomology and the history of zoology.

Taschenberg is still known today for his diverse publications on pest control and the history of birds. In 1885 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

Otto Taschenberg is the son of Ernst Ludwig Taschenberg , a professor of entomology in Halle.

Taschenberg edited a new series of the "Bibliotheca zoologica, 1861-1880" (Leipzig 1886 ff.).
