Frederick Reginald "Reg" Attwell (born March 23, 1920 in Shifnal , Shropshire , † December 2, 1986 in Burnley ) was an English football player .

Career

Attwell joined second division West Ham United in 1937 and made his debut in April 1938 against Sheffield United. This was his only use until the outbreak of World War II and the associated cessation of league operations. Attwell served in the Essex Regiment during the war and came at irregular intervals to a total of almost 50 missions for West Ham in the war-related replacement competitions. In the season 1945/46 he also completed some games in the Wartime League for Burnley FC . With the resumption of league operations in the Football League in the summer of 1946, Attwell played four more games for West Ham before moving to Burnley FC in October 1946.

Already in his first season at Burnley he was promoted to the First Division as runner-up, but the highlight of the season was the entry into the FA Cup final, in which they lost 1-0 to Charlton Athletic after extra time . After a total of 222 first division appearances for Burnley, the best final result was a third place in the 1947/48 season, he left the club in October 1954 and played for one more season with third division Bradford City . He then returned to the amateur field and let his career at FC Darwen end.
