Catherine Wirth

Catherine Wirth , actually Katharina Walpurga Wirth , (born March 23, 1931 in Laufersweiler , † 2006 in Paris ) was a German writer .

Life

Katharina Walpurga Wirth came from a poor family in the Hunsrück . She was the eldest daughter of Wilhelm Wirth and Katharina Wirth, née Quint. She had three other siblings. At the age of 14, after completing her schooling, she worked as a maid. She met the Frenchman Marcel Maufrais, whom she married on October 4, 1949. On October 12, 1949, she moved to France with her husband and from then on called herself Catherine Maufrais. She worked as a geriatric nurse and it wasn't until she retired in 1990 that she began to write and published her works under the name Catherine Wirth. Her novels are about her homeland, the Hunsrück, and her family. Catherine Maufrais died in Paris in 2006 at the age of 75.
