The 1. FC Wolfsburg is a football club from the Wolfsburg district Köhlerberg . The first team played for twelve years in the highest amateur league in Lower Saxony.

history

On July 4, 1945 the Volkssport- und Kulturverein Wolfsburg was founded, which became VfL Wolfsburg on September 12, 1945 . Some dissatisfied members of the football department split off from VfL and founded 1. FC Wolfsburg on December 27, 1945. A few months later, 1. FC and VfL faced each other in a playoff for a place in the district class, which 1. FC won 8-2. In 1951, 1. FC rose to the third class amateur league 4 , in which they were runner-up in the first season.

In 1954 the club moved to the amateur league 7 and promptly became champions. A 3-2 win in the promotion round over SV Alfeld brought promotion to the Lower Saxony- East amateur league. After two years, he was relegated to the amateur league. In 1960 1. FC was again champions and prevailed in the promotion round. Back in the Upper House of Lower Saxony, 1. FC reached fourth place and, thanks to the better goal quotient, was ahead of their neighbors VfL with the same number of points. It was the last time that 1. FC stood in front of VfL in the table.

In 1964 he qualified for the single-track state league Lower Saxony . There they became runner-up in 1966 and moved into the promotion round to Regionalliga Nord . Shortly before it started, coach Imre Farkaszinski said goodbye to VfL and left behind an unsettled team that lost the playoff against SC Sperber Hamburg 2: 3 after extra time . A year later, 1. FC reached the promotion round again, but this time had no chance.

In 1969 they only managed to stay up because Leu Braunschweig and Olympia Wilhelmshaven made it to the regional league. A year later, 1. FC had no chance and rose with 138 goals conceded. The low point was a 2:15 defeat against the amateurs of Hannover 96 . After a further descent, the 1. FC was in the district league, but managed to get promoted back to the Verbandsliga Ost in 1972 , which had to be left down again in 1977. In the 1980s, the club shuttled between the district league and the district league before a downward slide began that led 1. FC 1991 to the district league. In 1996 he was promoted to the district class, which was followed two years later by promotion to the district league. It took until 2006 before the leap into the Braunschweig regional league succeeded. The team was relegated from this in 2008 and has since played in the Braunschweig 1 district league.

In 2014, 1. FC Wolfsburg also founded a women's team that started in the Wolfsburg district league in the 2014/15 season. In its very first season, the team achieved promotion to the district league. In 2019 he was promoted to the Braunschweig regional league.
