history

On August 22, 1858 , gymnasts founded the men's gymnastics club from 1858 . Over time, other sports have emerged from gymnastics or have developed independently. Initially, gymnastics took place on a "gymnastics field" or in barns. In 1886 the club's own gym "Am Antonianger" was inaugurated, which is still in use today. In 1912 the clubs Hertha Alfeld and the 1912 Football Club were founded in Alfeld , which merged a year later to form FC Union Alfeld and were at home in workers' sport. The common rival of FC Union was SV Eintracht , which was absorbed by MTV Alfeld in 1931 . That MTV Alfeld merged with Tuspo Alfeld in 1945 to form today's SV Alfeld . Tuspo Alfeld was created in 1929 through the merger between SV 1925 and TV Jahn 1884 . In 1933 the members of the banned FC Union Tuspo joined. The footballers split off as FC Alfeld in 1958 , but returned to the parent club in 1991. Today sport is practiced in 18 branches.

Soccer

In 1947 the SV Alfeld was one of the founding members of the then second-class state league Hildesheim , but rose from bottom of the table. In 1949 the Alfelder were grouped into the third-class amateur league season 5 (Hildesheim), where they were runner-up in 1952 behind Borussia Hildesheim . In 1955 the SVA became champions, but failed in the promotion round at 1. FC Wolfsburg and Union Salzgitter . A year later they secured the championship again and prevailed in the promotion round.

After relegation was barely managed in the 1956/57 season, relegation followed a year later. With only 3:57 points and 124 goals conceded, it went back to the third division. In 1964, the newly created Association League Lower Saxony South was missed and the team fell down to the district league. In the 1978/79 season, the Alfelder finally reached the Association League South, but missed the qualification for the newly created, two-track national league . After another crash in the district league, SV Alfeld was promoted to the Hanover regional league in 2012 . The first team has played in the district league since the 2015/16 season.

Handball

The first men's handball team plays in the current season 2019/2020 in the association league of Lower Saxony, after the promotion from the state league Hanover as table leader in the season 2018/2019.

In the 2006/07 season they played for one year in the third-class Regionalliga Nord . A season later they reached the DHB Cup and lost in the first round at SG Schalksmühle-Halver with 27:34.
