Don Hartman

Samuel Donald Harman (born November 18, 1900 in New York , New York , USA , † March 23, 1958 in Palm Springs , California , USA) was an American screenwriter, film director and composer.

Life

Don Hartman became an actor, writer and manager at the Dallas Little Theater after leaving school. Soon after, he was also seen as an actor on Broadway. In 1933 he moved to Hollywood to film. He started out as a comedy screenwriter and composer. He worked many times in films with Bob Hope , including films in the Road to ... series . In 1935 he joined the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). His songs became more and more popular. He composed I Found a Dream , Love at Last , Readin ', Ritin', Rhythm and If I Knew You Better , among others . In 1944 he began producing films for RKO Pictures , shortly afterwards he also directed.

However, he celebrated his greatest successes as a screenwriter. 1936 he was nominated for the Oscar for best original story for the film The Gay Deception (along with Stephen Morehouse Avery ) and in 1943 for best original screenplay for Road to Morocco ( Road to Morocco nominated) (together with Frank Butler). For Every girl should marry ( Every Girl Should Be Married ), in which he also directed, he was nominated to the Writers Guild of America for the WGA Award (along with Stephen Morehouse Avery).

At the age of 57, Don Hartman died on March 23, 1958 in Palm Springs of complications from a heart attack.
