Claire Anderson
Claire Mathis Anderson (born May 8, 1891 in Detroit , Michigan , † March 23, 1964 in Venice , California ) was an American actress who retired from the film business in the 1920s.
Life
Her discoverer was Mack Sennett , who made her one of the so-called "Sennett Bathing Beauties". She was one of a number of young, attractive women who appeared in Sennett's films lightly dressed in a bathing suit and therefore caused a stir in prudish America. In addition to Anderson, Mabel Normand , Juanita Hansen , Gloria Swanson and Phyllis Haver also began their careers as Sennett Bathing Beauty .
Anderson appeared in numerous films by the Triangle Film Corporation and made over 70 silent films by 1926, among others at the side of Constance Talmadge , Harry Carey and Thurston Hall . In 1926 she retired from the film business, but occasionally appeared as a stage actress. She died in Venice in 1964.
Claire Anderson was married to Harry H. Anderson († 1926). The marriage ended in divorce.
