Marcel Eger (born March 23, 1983 in Saxony near Ansbach ) is a former German football player . He played for FC St. Pauli for seven years .

Career

Eger played in his youth for 1. FC Sachsen and for SpVgg Ansbach 09 . From 2003 he played for 1. FC Nürnberg . In the 2003/04 season he moved to 1. SC Feucht , where he became a regular player. A year later, in the 2004/05 season, the defender moved to the then regional division FC St. Pauli , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2007. As an attacking defender, he scored four goals in the 2007/08 season. For the 2010/11 season Eger rose to the 1st Bundesliga with FC St. Pauli. Along with his teammates Fabian Boll , Florian Bruns , Florian Lechner , Fabio Morena , Benedikt Pliquett , Carsten Rothenbach and Timo Schultz, he was one of eight players who were promoted twice with FC St. Pauli and in the regional league, in the 2nd Bundesliga and ultimately played for the club in the 1st Bundesliga. Eger made his debut in the 1st Bundesliga on March 5, 2011. In the 5-0 away defeat at 1. FC Nürnberg, he came on in the 6th minute for the injured Carlos Zambrano . In total, he came to seven appearances in the Bundesliga; he scored his only goal in the 8-1 home defeat against FC Bayern Munich on May 7, 2011. With FC St. Pauli he was relegated at the end of the 2010/11 season. His contract, which expired at the end of the season, was not extended.

For the 2011/12 season, the English club Brentford FC signed him free of charge. Eger signed a two-year contract with an option for another year. In May 2012, his contract was prematurely terminated by mutual agreement. Also because of an ankle injury, Eger only came to 22 missions; he played his last game in January 2012. He then ended his active professional career.
