Florian Lechner (born March 3, 1981 in Ellwangen ) is a German soccer player .
Amateur career
Lechner played in his youth for SV Pfahlheim and SVH Königsbronn, from where he moved to VfB Stuttgart in 1996 . The defender went through the youth departments here before moving up to the amateur team in 2000. In the Regionalliga Süd he played 66 games for the Swabians before he left the club after the 2003/04 season in the direction of St. Pauli . At the then northern regional league team Lechner came as a regular player on 84 regional league appearances up to their promotion to the second division in the 2006/07 season.
Professional career
For Lechner, the ascent marked the beginning of a long period of suffering that began with a complex fracture of the fibula in preparation for the 2007/08 season. This had to be "fixed with six normal and one long screw on the shin and an additional metal plate", as Lechner reported to the Hamburger Morgenpost . As usual, the objects used were made of titanium - which was Lechner's undoing. As a result of an undetected titanium allergy, the periosteum of the operated fibula became inflamed. The allergy was not diagnosed until five months later and the screws and plates were removed. Incorrect loading subsequently led to a pelvic tilt and back problems. After he had missed the entire first second division season, Lechner was aiming for a comeback for the first half of the next - and failed again. A heel spur - another secondary injury to the fibula fracture - resulted in another six-month break.
On February 8, 2009, after an 18-month injury break and at the age of 27, Florian Lechner made his first professional appearance when he came on in the 42nd minute of the game between FC St. Pauli and SpVgg Greuther Fürth . In the further course of the season he came to an additional nine missions, all of which he denied in the starting XI. In the following season 2009/10 the Kiezkickern succeeded the first division promotion , to which Lechner contributed 14 inserts. Another ten professional appearances followed in the first division.
On May 11, 2011, FC St. Pauli announced after his first division relegation that Lechner's expiring contract would not be extended. After the long-time teammate and - like Lechner - fan favorite Marcel Eger had to leave the club, but the club did not play a farewell game, the two defenders organized one themselves together with their former teammate Marvin Braun . 4500 fans ultimately watched the spectacle, hundreds celebrated until the early hours of the morning.
After a move to Hajduk Split , which had already been announced as perfect, broke up and Lechner decided not to move to the interested Indonesian club PSM Makassar for sporting reasons , the defender was signed by Karlsruher SC for the 2011/12 season .
Florian Lechner went to North America on March 14, 2012 and moved to the US Major League Soccer , where the New England Revolution , which won the contract for the signing of Lechner, announced the immediate signing of the Swabian.
