Carsten Rothenbach (born September 3, 1980 in Heidelberg ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Until 1997 Rothenbach played for FC Dossenheim and SV Schriesheim , from 1997 to 2006 he was active at Karlsruher SC . The 1.85 m tall defender played 101 games in the Second Bundesliga for KSC , in which he scored five goals. In the Regionalliga Süd he was used 52 times, making three goals.
For the 2006/07 season he moved to the Regionalliga Nord for FC St. Pauli , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2007 . In the 2007/08 season he was a regular player in keeping his team up. At the end of November 2008, Rothenbach extended his contract until June 2012. Rothenbach made his Bundesliga debut on August 21, 2010 in the away game at SC Freiburg, which FC St. Pauli won 3-1. He came to 13 missions in his first Bundesliga season. Due to a patellar tendon injury, he missed almost the entire second half of the season. He did not extend his contract, which expired at the end of the 2011/12 season.
In May 2012 VfL Bochum signed Rothenbach. He signed a two-year contract until June 30, 2014.
After the end of his contract with VfL Bochum in 2014, he did not accept another contract with a professional club and ended his active career.
Today Rothenbach is assistant to the sports director at FC St. Pauli.
