Career

Kjelstrup, who started ski jumping at the age of five, made his international debut in the FIS Cup in December 2005 in Vikersund . After a 20th place he was able to continuously improve his performance in further competitions. At the Norwegian Junior Championships 2006 in Steinkjer he reached tenth place on the normal hill and 14th place in Rena on the large hill. At the 2006 Junior World Championships in Kranj , Slovenia , he reached fifth place with the team and 27th in individual jumping. After two more good ones He started results in the FIS Cup from the following season in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In the first competition with 41st place clearly behind the points, he made it into the points for the first time in the second competition in Engelberg, Switzerland, with 27th place. In Westby in February 2007 he just missed a placement in the top ten with eleventh place. Shortly before that he won silver from the normal hill at the Norwegian Junior Championships 2007 in Rena. At the Norwegian Championships in Molde , however, he did not get beyond a 20th place. At the Junior World Championships 2007 in Tarvisio , Italy , he was again part of the squad and, at the age of 18, could not repeat his performances from the previous year. Only with the team did he again reach fifth place. In the individual on the normal hill it was only enough to finish 33rd. The 2006/07 season he finished in 68th place overall.

In the summer of 2007 as well as at the start of the 2007/08 season he had to be satisfied with lower positions and missed the points several times. In the summer he also got the opportunity to jump in the Ski Jumping Grand Prix . He and the team reached 10th place in the team competition in Hinterzarten . On December 9th, 2007 he got the opportunity to jump on the large hill of Granåsen as part of the national group at the Ski Jumping World Cup in Trondheim , but in the end he was only 50th and last. Surprisingly, he landed fifth in the jumping in Hinterzarten in February 2008. He then received the nomination for the Junior World Championships again , this time in Zakopane, Poland . A significant increase in performance was expected from him. With fourth place in the team competition, the Norwegian team convinced and missed the podium by just 4.5 points behind Germany, Austria and Poland. In the Continental Cup, it was difficult for him to achieve good results in the last competitions of the season. In the end, despite this, he finished 64th in the overall ranking. At the Norwegian Junior Championships in 2008 he reached fifth place on the large hill in Meldal . At the Norwegian Championships a short time later, he fell well short of expectations with 25th place on the normal hill and 15th place on the large hill.

The summer of 2008 was just as unsuccessful as the previous year. Also for ski jumping Continental Cup 2008/09 no point gains were initially recorded. At the Junior World Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso he reached fourth place for the second time in a row with the team. He finished the individual competition in 27th place. In the following five competitions of the season in the Continental Cup he was able to win four points and in the end he was 94th overall with 50 points. Despite this rising performance curve, Kjelstrup ended his international ski jumping career at the age of only 19 after the season. After that he was only active nationally and reached place 41 on the large hill at the Norwegian Championships in Trondheim in 2010 .
