Drammenbanen

The Randsfjordbane ( German  Randsfjordbahn ) is a railway line in Norway from Drammen via Hokksund , Vikersund , Tyristrand, Hønefoss , Heen, Eggemoen to Randsfjord station at the southwest end of the eponymous lake near Jevnaker . It was the fifth railway line to be built in Norway.

history

The construction of the line was proposed by Carl Abraham Pihl in 1858 .

The line was completed on October 12, 1868 as a narrow-gauge railway (1067 mm) and converted to standard gauge with the construction of the Bergen Railway in 1909 and re-routed from Hønefoss to Randsfjord.

Electrical operation on sections of the line began between Drammen and Hokksund on April 10, 1929 and between Hokksund and Hønefoss on October 4, 1959.

Passenger traffic from Hønefoss to Randsfjord was shut down on May 26, 1968. All traffic between Bergermoen and Randsfjord ceased on January 1, 1981, and the rails were dismantled in 1984. Since then, these two kilometers of the route have been expanded as a pedestrian and cycle path.

In 2001 local passenger traffic was discontinued due to the low passenger volume between Hokksund and Hønefoss. He was resumed in 2003 but retired in 2004.

Since April 4, 2011, the line between Hønefoss and Hen has the status of a siding, which is subordinate to the Hønefoss station.

Individual evidence

  1. In Norwegian , the ending "-en" for nouns is a definite article . Therefore, the correct designation in German texts is either "Randsfjordbanen" or "die Randsfjordbane".
