The Hovedbane ( German  main line ) is Norway's first railway line and runs from Oslo to Eidsvoll .

The Norsk Hoved-Jernbane built the railway line between Oslo and Eidsvoll via Lørenskog and Dal (not to be confused with the cloakroom that runs roughly parallel ). This was Norway's first public railway line, which opened on September 1, 1854. Formally, the line was a private railway until March 4, 1926 . On that date, NHJ, as Oslo District, became part of Norges Statsbaner .

The construction of the line began on August 8, 1851 with an initial workforce of around 350 workers, by December 1851 the number of workers was increased to 1,400.

In combination with the steamboat traffic set up on Mjøsa , the railway revolutionized traffic inland.

In recent times the Hovedbane has lost the through traffic after the opening of the Romeriksport .

The route is 68 km long and was electrified in 1956.

The most important stops along the Hovedbane are Bryn, Strømmen , Lillestrøm , Jessheim and Eidsvoll.
