The railway line Reinsvoll - Skreia , Norwegian Skreiabanen , was a 21.92 kilometer long railway line in the Fylke Innlandet in Norway . It leads from the Reinsvoll branch station (1901 Reinsvolden stoppested , 1902 Reinsvold , 1921 Reinsvoll ) in the municipality of Vestre Toten to Skreia in the municipality of Østre Toten .

history

The Reinsvoll – Skreia railway was a branch line of the Gjøvikbane . The construction contract by the king took place on June 19, 1897. The line was opened on November 26, 1902 by the royal special train. Originally, the Gjøvikbane should partly follow the route of the Skreiabane. With the then built route, the interests of the large industrial companies in Raufoss and Hunndalen were taken into account. The 22-kilometer route had an altitude difference of 195 meters.

In 1907 passenger trains took up to 60 minutes in each direction. By using railcars , travel times could be reduced considerably from 1929 onwards. The five daily train pairs only took 40 to 45 minutes. In addition to the passenger trains, there was an animal transport train. Milk transport was also an important source of income.

Passenger traffic was stopped on October 14, 1963, goods traffic followed in 1987. In the mid-1990s, the route was converted into a pedestrian and cycle path.

All station buildings and goods sheds were created by the architect Paul Due , as well as the engine shed and the wagon hall in Skreia. Different styles were used, so that the buildings along the route are very varied and have a high architectural quality. Lena and Kraby are in Art Nouveau style, while the Skreia train station has a more Chinese character.

Train stations

Bilitt was originally a stop, but was later upgraded to a train station because of the military traffic to Starum. The station operated until 1988. In connection with the suspension of the line, all buildings were demolished to make way for the expansion of the Riksvei .
