The Gardermobane ( German "Gardermobahn" ) is a 64 km long double-track high-speed line in Norway between Etterstad in Oslo and Eidsvoll . The route north of Lillestrøm was completed for the opening of Oslo-Gardermoen Airport .

history

Train traffic began on August 1, 1998, and the airport went into operation on October 1 of the same year. The Romeriksporten tunnel between Etterstad and Lillestrøm could not be opened before October 22, 1999 due to extensive water ingress and the resulting sealing work.

On the route, the Flytoget usually operates between Oslo and Oslo-Gardermoen Airport. In addition, long-distance, regional and local trains run on the route as well as tank car trains , which supply the airport with fuel for the aircraft. All other freight trains continue to use the Hovedbane .

The construction of the cloakroom, including the train sets, cost ten billion Norwegian kroner and lasted from 1994 to 1999.

future

Traffic at Oslo Airport is growing and Terminal 2 is under construction. In this context, increasing traffic is expected for the airport train station. Therefore, the Venjar – Eidsvoll section is to be expanded to double-track to improve the intercity connections to Østlandet . The project is included in the Nasjonal transport plan ( German  National Transport Plan ) for the period 2014–2023. Construction is scheduled to start in 2018.
