Kværner is a Norwegian company that develops and sells offshore platforms and systems for processing raw materials such as crude oil and natural gas . The company has gone through some mergers and reorganizations. Kværner was founded in Oslo in 1853 . Between the years 1853 and 2004, the main business areas were in the fields of construction and engineering. In 2004 Kværner and Aker ASA merged to form Aker Kværner ASA. In 2008 the company was renamed Aker Solutions ASA. During this corporate phase, the focus of the business areas continued to be on maritime technology. Finally, the Kværner division - as an independent business unit for maritime projects - was spun off again. The IPO for the now independent Kværner ASA took place in 2011 on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

history

1853 to 2004

Kværner was founded in 1853 by the industrialist Oluf A. Onsum. Production initially included industrial furnaces , and later also turbines . By 1967 the production spectrum expanded to include steel construction , crane systems and pumps . Finally, in 1990, the product range was completed with the construction of on- and off-shore platforms for oil and gas processing. In 1992 Kværner expanded by taking over the Swedish shipyard Götaverken and in 1996 by taking over the British engineering company Trafalgar House .

Kværner countered the ongoing economic difficulties by selling the Kværner Govan business unit from the Trafalgar House division and the Chemrec division. In August 2000, the construction division was finally spun off and sold to the Swedish company Skanska .

2004 to 2011 - Aker Kværner ASA

The economic situation of Kværner could not be improved by the sale of individual business areas. The company was forced to start negotiations with one of its competitors. In 2004 it finally came to the merger with the competitor Aker ASA . The Kværner divisions have been split into Aker Kværner and Aker Yards . In 2005 Kværner ASA was merged with Aker Maritime Finance AS. In 2008 the company was renamed Aker Solutions ASA.

since 2011 - Kværner ASA

After the company changed its name, the management decided that Kværner should concentrate more on its core competencies. The continuation of this structure ended in 2011 with the spin-off of Kværners. On May 6, 2011, this was welcomed and adopted at the Annual General Meeting.
