The Skotterud – Vestmarka (Norwegian: Vestmarkabanen or Paradisbanen ) was a railway line in Norway . It branched off from the Kongsvingerbane in Skotterud and led to Vestmarka in the municipality of Eidskog in Innlandet .

history

Vestmarkabanen was 14.3 kilometers long and opened on October 15, 1918. It was built as a private railway and only later taken over by Norges Statsbaner (NSB). The name Paradisbanen comes from a garden near Stangnes that was named Paradis . Between Stangnes and Rasta, the route led through the only railway tunnel in Sør-Hedmark.

The reason for the construction of the line was the removal of wood from the forests around Vestmarka to the main line.

With the cessation of passenger traffic on January 30, 1931, this was the first railway line in Norwegian history to lose passenger traffic. Up until the 1960s there were plans to extend the route to Mysen in Østfold . These plans never came to fruition.

The freight between BUAA and Vestmarka was maintained until 15 February 1961, the final closure of the route took place on June 1, 1965th

The remaining railway tunnel is to be prepared for a pedestrian and cycle path between Vestmarka and Skotterud.
