Gjøvikbanen or Gjøvik Line is a Norwegian railway line between Oslo and Gjøvik . It was originally called the Nordbanen and ran between Grefsen and Røykenvik . The line was extended to Gjøvik in 1902.

Gjøvikbanen was one of the first lines in the Norwegian railway system to be privatized, but the tender won Norges Statsbaner with its subsidiary NSB Anbud .

history

The Gjøvik Line is the smallest and least-used railway line from Oslo and the only single-track line in this area. Like most other Norwegian rail lines, the entire 124-kilometer route is electrified.

At Roa there is the junction from Jevnakerbane to Hønefoss to Bergensbane . Most trains between Oslo and Bergen used this route in the past , but now most passenger trains go via Drammen . This route is a little longer, but leads through more densely populated areas. Freight trains, on the other hand, often use the route via Roa.

The Gjøvikbane previously had three branch lines, the Jaren – Røykenvik , Valdresbanen and the Reinsvoll – Skreia railway , which have now been closed.

Most freight train journeys on Gjøvik Railway are carried out with electric multiple units. Stadler Flirt regional trains have been operating in passenger transport since 2018 .
