western route to Moss

The Indre Østfoldbane , also Østre linje ( German  "eastern line" ) of the Østfoldbane , has its starting point at Ski station , from where it runs southeast via Askim to Mysen . There it turns south and runs from Rakkestad in a south-westerly direction to Sarpsborg , where it meets the western stretch of the Østfoldbane. The eastern route was completed in 1882 and was 125 years old in 2007.

In 2006 the safety systems on the route were revised.

Passenger traffic on the route is operated with local trains as line 560. The trains usually only go to Mysen, only a few trains continue to Rakkestad during rush hour. Regular passenger train services no longer operate between Rakkestad and Sarpsborg, but the route continues to be used for freight trains or rerouted passenger trains.
