Kråkstad is a village in the Norwegian municipality of Nordre Follo , located in the province ( Fylke ) Viken . The place has 1083 inhabitants (as of 2019) and formed its own municipality until 1964.
geography
Kråkstad is a so-called Tettsted , i.e. a settlement that is counted as one area for statistical purposes. The place is southeast of the city of Ski and about 30 kilometers south of Oslo in the former province of Akershus . The Kråkstadelva flows through the village. The European route 18 (E18) leads past Kråkstad in the south , which connects to Oslo. In the north of the village there is a train station, which is served by trains on the Østfoldbanen .
history
In 1837 the municipality of Kråkstad was founded. This lasted until 1964 when the municipality of Kråkstad became part of Ski municipality . This was dissolved as part of the nationwide municipal reform at the end of 2019 and Kråkstad has been part of the Nordre Follo municipality, which was founded on January 1, 2020.
In 1882, after the railway line from Ski to Sarpsborg was built, Kråkstad station opened. The station is now a listed building. Kråkstad kirke church was built in 1150.
Surname
The place was mentioned around the year 1300 as "Krakustadir", "Krakostadir" and "Krakastadir". The name is made up of the two parts "Kráka" and "stad", the former being derived from the river name "Kráka". This in turn comes from the name for crows .
