Kartverket ( Statens Kartverk ) is the Norwegian cartography and land registry that is responsible for surveying , geodesy , hydrography , cadastre and cartography . The head office of the authority, which is subordinate to the Kommunal- og moderniseringsdepartementet (local ministry), is in Hønefoss , and there are two sub-departments in Ullensvang (customer center) and Stavanger (sea charts). Until 2014, the authority was under the Ministry of the Environment .

The officer Heinrich Wilhelm von Huth founded Norges geografiske oppmåling in 1773 , the forerunner of the institution. From 1932 until the merger to form Kartverket on January 1, 1986, Norges Sjøkartverk , which is responsible for nautical charts , was an independent authority.

Johnny Welle has been the head of the agency since 2020.
