The climate og miljødepartementet (short KLD; German : Climate and Environment Ministry ), the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment . It was founded in 1972 under the name Miljøverndepartementet (German: Environment Ministry ). It has had its current name since 2014. Since January 2020, Sveinung Rotevatn from the social-liberal party Venstre has been Norway's climate and environment minister.

history

The Miljøverndepartementet was founded on May 8, 1972 during the reign of the Bratteli I government . The first minister was Olav Gjærevoll from the Social Democratic Labor Party . On January 1, 2014, the name of the ministry changed to Klima- og miljødepartementet. The department for climate and forests was transferred from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Climate and Environment. In addition, emissions trading is now the responsibility of the ministry. This was previously the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance .

organization

The ministry is divided into five specialist departments as well as a press office and an anteroom. The five specialist departments are the marine and pollution department, the climate department, the cultural heritage department, the nature management department and the organization department. There are three state secretaries under the minister. Following the Klima- og miljødepartementet are the Artsdatabanken , the state enterprise Enova , the Meteorologisk Institutt , the environmental authority Miljødirektoratet , the Norsk kulturminnefond , the Norwegian Polar Institute , the Svalbards miljøvernfond , which is responsible for climate protection in Spitsbergen , and the Riksantikvaren .

Sveinung Rotevatn has been the Minister for Climate and Environment since January 24, 2020 . He took over the office from his party colleague Ola Elvestuen .
