Meteorologisk Institutt
The Meteorologisk institutt (Meteorological Institute, abbreviation MET ), officially Det norske meteorologiske institutt until 2002 , is the official weather service of Norway . It was founded in 1866 and was initially subordinate to the Ministry of Education (Kirke- og undervisningsdepartementet, most recently Kunnskapsdepartement ), today the Ministry of the Environment (Miljøverndepartementet, since 2014 Klima- og Miljødepartementet).
Its headquarters are in Oslo , with branch offices in Bergen and Tromsø .
The more than 70-year cooperation between the NMI and Norwegian Broadcasting was intensified in 2007 with the establishment of the yr.no weather service .
