Neamț monastery
The Neamț Monastery ( Romanian Mănăstirea Neamț ) is a Romanian Orthodox male monastery and is located in northeast Romania 10 km west of Târgu Neamț in the Neamț district .
history
The monastery was founded at the time of Prince Petru Muşat (1371-1375). Later, under Alexandru cel Bun , it was repaired. Today's monastery church was built by Stefan the Great . It was completed in 1497 when the Moldovan army won a battle against the Polish King John I Albrecht .
In its heyday, the monastery was an important cultural center with schools for miniature painting and calligraphy . Some well-preserved pieces can still be seen in the monastery museum. The monastery library also has many rare books. Among them are some first editions within Romania.
