Aksel Steen
Aksel Severin Steen (born June 26, 1849 in Kristiania ; † May 11, 1915 ibid) was a Norwegian meteorologist .
Life
After his studies, which he completed as Candidatus realium , he worked at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in Kristiania until his death . In 1900 he became deputy director Henrik Mohn , whom he followed in 1913.
In 1882/1883 he headed the research station in Bossekop set up by Norway as part of the First International Polar Year . He took over the scientific processing of the geomagnetic measurements after Fridtjof Nansen's Fram expedition 1893–1896, Otto Sverdrup's second Fram expedition 1898–1902, Roald Amundsen's passage through the Northwest Passage with the Gjøa 1903–1906 and Amundsen's Fram expedition to the South Pole 1910–1912.
