Grimstadbanen was a single-track, non-electrified railway line between Rise and Grimstad in the Norwegian province of Agder . It was opened in 1907 as a private narrow-gauge railway. Operations ceased in 1961.

history

The Grimstadbane was built in Kapspur and opened on September 16, 1907 as a private railway of the Grimstad-Frohlandsbanen (GFB) .

A turntable and a locomotive shed were built as technical facilities in Rise and Grimstad .

From November 23, 1908, it had a connection in Rise to the state-built railroad between Arendal and Froland and was thus a branch line of this line, first called Treungenbanen , later called Arendalsbanen . The Grimstadbane was taken over by the Norges Statsbaner on January 24, 1912 .

In 1936, one year after the subsequent Treungenbanen in Rise, the Grimstadtbane was also converted to standard gauge. Mainly lumber and ore were transported on this branch line, in addition to passenger traffic.

With the cessation of passenger traffic on September 1, 1961, the line was closed. Parts are now used as a bike path.
