The railway line Jaren - Røykenvik , ( Norwegian Røykenvikbanen ), was a 6.7 kilometer long railway line in the Fylke Innlandet in Norway . It runs from the Jaren branch station to Røykenvik by the Randsfjord .
The line was a branch line of the Gjøvikbane and was in operation from December 20, 1900 to November 1957. Traffic on the route began before the remainder to Gjøvik was opened in 1902 . For two years, Røykenvik was the northernmost station on Gjøvikbane.
history
Following a decision by the Norwegian government in March 1894, the Røykenvikbane was built primarily for the transport of wood , but it was also intended to transport people . Among other things, steam locomotives of the NSB 18 series were used by Norges Statsbaner for train traffic . From the beginning there was a stop in Andfossen. When railcars took over passenger transport around 1930, an unofficial stop was made at Augedalsbakken, about 700 meters north of Brandbu.
Wood was the most important cargo, but cattle and agricultural products were also transported, and there was also mail. At times there was excursion traffic, especially during the summer holidays. In winter, skiers came. The trains had connections to the steamboat connections on the Randsfjord. However, with the further expansion of the railway in Oppland, steamship traffic was gradually stopped.
Railway stations and rail operations
Brandbu was the only train station between the terminus. It was unfavorable to the town center and so the train was finally replaced by a bus line to Jaren. Passenger traffic therefore ended in 1949, while freight traffic continued until November 1957. About 800 meters of the track remained after decommissioning as siding receive up Jaren Andfossen, the rest of the track was dismantled 1960th
Røykenvik station was damaged by fire in 1964 and demolished the following year. The engine shed and the goods hall were preserved. The station in Brandbu was demolished in 1964, the goods shed is still preserved as a warehouse. The Fylkesveg 34 is now routed across the former station area.
