Karmøibanen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karmøibanen or Haugesund – Skudenesbanen was a planned Norwegian railway line from Haugesund to Skudeneshavn across the island of Karmøy , which should be part of the Vestlandske stamjernbane .

After the Bergensbane was opened in 1919 , ideas were drawn up for a main line in Vestlandet . Optimistic suggestions envisaged a stretch to Hammerfest . Karmøibanen was supposed to be the first section north of Stavanger that had been connected to the Norwegian route network by the Jæderbane since 1878 . The Boknafjord was to be crossed by a train ferry , then Karmøy was to be crossed by the train.

In connection with the planning of the undersea tunnel of Rogfast the idea was raised again as would be with a quick connection to the rail Haugesund in 20 minutes from Stavanger to reach.
