Rogfast is an underwater road tunnel under construction between the Norwegian municipalities of Randaberg (north of the city of Stavanger ) and Bokn in the Norwegian district of Rogaland . The main part of Rogfast is the 26.7 km long Boknafjord Tunnel , which will become the longest underwater tunnel in the world and the longest road tunnel in the world (before the Lærdals tunnel , also in Norway); it will run 392 meters below sea level. The project also includes a connection to the island community of Kvitsøy . The cost of the project is estimated at 16.8 billion crowns (around 1.73 billion euros) (as of August 2018).
Construction of the tunnel began on January 4, 2018, after the Norwegian Parliament approved it in May 2017; construction should be completed in 2025/26. Rogfast will be part of the European route E39 along the west coast of Norway and is the first major undertaking within the project to replace all ferry connections on the E39 between Kristiansand and Trondheim .
