Pescopagano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1787 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 40.5 kilometers northwest of Potenza , belongs to the Comunità Montana Marmo Platano and borders the provinces of Avellino and Salerno . The small Lago Saetta is located in the municipality .

Strada Statale 401 dell'Alto Ofanto e del Vulture runs through the northern part of the municipality from Melfi to Sant'Andrea di Conza , and Strada Statale 7 Via Appia leads past the village of Pescopagano .

The Calitri-Pescopagano train station is located many kilometers from the town on the Avellino – Rocchetta Sant'Antonio railway line, which is no longer used by passengers .
