Oppido Lucano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3685 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 21 kilometers northeast of Potenza on Monte Montrano and borders directly on the province of Matera . Oppido Lucano is part of the Comunità Montana Alto Bradano .

The ruins of Sant'Igino

The area was populated as early as the 6th century BC. The Peuketeers settled here . Eventually the Lucans followed .
