Sasso di Castalda is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 795 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 19.5 kilometers southwest of Potenza and belongs to the Comunità montana Melandro . The Basento rises in the municipality .

history

The first documentary mention is found in 1068, even if the area was already inhabited in Roman antiquity because of the nearby Via Herculea .
