Picerno is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5758 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 14 kilometers west of Potenza and belongs to the Comunità montana Melandro .

history

Around 1000 AD the village was founded under the name Pizini . In 1331 she came to the County of Potenza. In 1857 the place in this seismically very active area was destroyed.

The municipality is crossed by the Raccordo autostradale 5 motor road from Potenza to the A3 autostrada . The Strada Statale 94 del Varco di Piestretta also leads through the municipality.
