Filiano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2837 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 20.5 kilometers north-northwest of Potenza . Filiano is part of the Comunità Montana Alto Basento .

history

Filiano was part of the neighboring municipality of Avigliano until 1951 . The municipality is known as the namesake for the cheese Pecorino di Filiano , which is produced in the region.
