Moliterno is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 3771 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 44.5 kilometers south-southeast of Potenza . Moliterno is part of the Comunità Montana Alto Agri and borders directly on the province of Salerno ( Campania ).

After the destruction of the city of Grumentum by the Saracens , the place Moliterno was rebuilt between 872 and 975.
