Savoia di Lucania is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1065 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 22 kilometers west-southwest of Potenza , belongs to the Comunità montana Melandro and borders directly on the province of Salerno ( Campania ).

history

The anarchist Giovanni Passannante , who was born here, committed an attack on Umberto I in Naples on November 17, 1878 , which failed. In honor of the king, the place was finally renamed from Salvia di Lucania to Savoia di Lucania .
