Joanna Hood

Joanna Hood (* in Seattle ) is an American violist.

Hood studied with Isadore Tinkleman at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music until 1986 and with Abraham Skernick at Indiana University Bloomington until 1984 . In 1986 she taught at the Institute of Music and Dance in Detroit and was artist in residence at Oakland University in Rochester. In the same year she was a founding member of the Lafayette Quartet , with which she recorded seven CDs.

In 1997 she was involved in founding the New York Loma Mar Quartet , with which she a. a. participated in the Bard Music Festival and on Paul McCartney's album Working Classical . She also played with the members of the quartet in the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and recorded an album with jazz singer Claudia Acuña .

Hood has premiered works by Zeena Parkins , Justin Haynes , David Jaffes, and Carla Kihlstedt with the Eclipse Quartet . She gave concerts with the pianist Karen Enns and commissioned compositions for viola works by Murray Adaskin , Al Hood and Justin Haynes.
