Balvano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1794 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 23.5 kilometers west of Potenza , belongs to the Comunità Montana Marmo Platano and borders the province of Salerno ( Campania ).
history
In 1944, shortly before the station on the railway line from Battipaglia to Metaponto, there was a serious railway accident that claimed more than 500 lives. The 1980 Irpinia earthquake also claimed numerous lives in the community.
