history
Colts Neck was originally a farming village and known for its large number of riding stables. Between 1950 and 1970, colonial and ranch-style homes were built in the wooded areas of Colts Neck. From 1980 to 2000 these were finally replaced by large houses, villas and extensive estates. This increased property prices in Colts Neck and the surrounding cities significantly.
Today the average list price for a house in Colts Neck is about $ 1.5 million.
local community
In order to prevent heavy development, the municipality issued the regulation that every house must stand on at least one hectare of land.
Many of Colts Neck's residents work in New York's financial district. In the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 , five members of the community were killed. A memorial by the sculptor Jim Gary , who lived in Colts Neck until his death, is dedicated to them.
Military facilities
Near the village is the US naval base Naval Weapons Station Earle with a 2.9 mile pier on Sandy Hook Bay . On August 20, 2013, at least 8 people were injured by an explosion during maintenance work.
