Dora ( English Dora the Explorer ) is an American animated series on the television station Nickelodeon .

The series is particularly intended to appeal to the Latin American population of the United States.

content

Seven year old Dora travels around the world with her monkey boots, map of the map and her backpack backpack. She is a Latina and speaks English and Spanish. On her travels she experiences adventures with different people and helps them to solve puzzles.

In the German version, Dora and her friends mainly speak German and English, but some of them have some words in Spanish. The aim is to teach the preschool children the basic terms of the English language (numbers, points of the compass, simple words). The program is used for bilingual pre-school education.

Dora is a Latin American girl who is discovering the world with her friends. She is very helpful and mostly out and about to help her friends.

Boots is a little monkey and Dora's best friend. It gets its name from its red boots, which according to Boots are custom-made.

Benny is a Taurus and Doras and Boot's best friend. He often has problems, which is why he often calls Dora to help.

Swiper is a thieving fox who loves to steal things and then hide them. His identification mark is a rattling sound that always sounds when he tries to steal something.

Backpack is a talking backpack that always has what Dora and Boots need.

Map is a talking map that is almost always in your backpack's right pocket. He knows best about orientation.

The party trio is a musical trio consisting of a snail, a grasshopper and a frog. They always play a trick when Dora and Boots have overcome an obstacle.

Tico is an English-speaking (originally Spanish-speaking) squirrel. Tico is the specialist in locomotion, but he usually cannot understand Dora.

The grumpy troll is a little yellow troll who lives under a bridge. He refuses Dora and her friends to cross his bridge until they have solved his riddle. A running gag is that he always sings when he comes out of his bridge.

The pilot episode aired in the US in 1999. The first season of the series started on August 14, 2000 . For the character Diego , a separate series was created in 2003 with the title Go, Diego, Go! produced.

Telemundo broadcast the series in Spanish. In total, Dora has been translated into 15 languages. Most of the translations were bilingual with English. In Germany, the series runs regularly in the Nick Jr. program window of the private broadcaster Nickelodeon under the name Dora.

In 2014 the series was replaced by the follow-up series Dora and Friends: Into the City! which was produced until 2017.

Merchandising

DVDs, play figures, cosmetic products, bags, books, dolls, board games and other toys were released with the characters in the series. In 2005 the game Dora the Explorer: Journey to the Purple Planet was released for the Playstation 2 and the Nintendo GameCube . The merchandise brought onto the market for the series brought in one billion dollars in sales in 2004 alone, and over three billion dollars since 2001.

Other publications and events

Nickelodeon has theatrical performances of Dora under the titles Dora City of Lost Toys and Dora's Pirate Adventure . Dora was played by Christina Bianco in the first production and Danay Ferrer in the second . In both pieces the song Get On Your Feet by Gloria Estefan was played at the finale . The plays were written by Chris Gifford and directed by Gip Hoppe .

In 2008 there were plans to produce a live action film for television.

On October 10, 2019, a real-life film was released under the title Dora and the Golden City with Isabela Moner in the title role in German cinemas.

In the Children's Museum of Manhattan , an exhibition was organized to series, there is also a travel exhibition called La Casa de Dora .

As part of the Nickelodeon Mach Mit! Supports Nickelodeon Germany since 2008 under the motto Help Dora help charitable projects in Germany.
