The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is a year in New York City held, traditional festive parade Thanksgiving . The event, hosted by Macy’s department store, attracts 250,000 spectators and is shown on television.

The parade was first held on Thanksgiving 1924 under the name Macy's Christmas Day Parade , but was given the current name the following year. In the first few years live animals took part, from 1927 these were replaced by balloon figures from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company . The parade was canceled from 1942 to 1944 because of World War II . After the parade was immortalized in the 1947 Hollywood film The Miracle of Manhattan , NBC began televising the event annually the following year.

Distance

Initially, the parade started at the corner of 145th Street and Convent Avenue and led to 34th Street in Herald Square . With the resumption of the parade after the World War II recess, a new route was established. Since then, the corner of 77th Street and Central Park West has been the starting point of the parade. After it south along the Central Park goes, the parade turns on Columbus Circle in Broadway from. The route continues across Times Square and past the Macy's building to 34th Street, where the route turns towards 7th Avenue. The parade ends there.
