John Vanderslice (born May 22, 1967 in Gainesville , Florida ) is an American singer and songwriter . Many of his songs are directed against American governments, their decision-makers and their failures in politics.

Career

In 1994 Vanderslice formed the band MK Ultra with Don Carr, Matt Torrey and John Tyner , with whom he released three records. In 1997 he founded the studio Tiny Telephone in San Francisco , which was characterized by its purely analog recording technology. Because of the cheap studio costs it is visited by many bands, including Death Cab for Cutie , Two Gallants , Granfaloon Bus , Nada Surf , Mates of State and the Mountain Goats . In 1999 the MK Ultra Band broke up, Vanderslice continued to concentrate on his solo career.

Works

In 2000 his debut album Mass Suicide Occult Figurines was released . His song Bill Gates Must Die caused a stir because the lyrics are about a porn addict. In this song he also blames Bill Gates as the inventor of Internet Explorer for his addiction and therefore wishes him death. In 2001 he released his second album Time Travel Is Lonely on Basuk Records. Was published in 2002 Life and Death of an American Four Tracker and 2004 Cellar Door . With the Mountain Goats he is involved as a producer on their albums We Shall All Be Healed (2004) and The Sunset Tree (2005).

In 2005, Pixel Revolt was published , which mainly deals with the events of September 11, 2001 . Vanderslice speaks out against the subsequent military reactions on the part of the USA. Two years later, the sixth album Emerald City appears , on which he is supported by artists such as Jan Bjornstadt , David Broecker and David Douglas .
