Two Gallants is an indie rock band from San Francisco , California . It consists of Adam Stephens (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Tyson Vogel (drums, vocals).

The band is named after a short story of the same name by James Joyce from Dubliner . Their music is characterized by Stephens' rough voice and could be described as varied folk rock that sometimes drifts into punk or ska . Among critics, Two Gallants evoke associations with artists like Bright Eyes , Bob Dylan or the Decemberists (with whom they also went on tour once).

history

The band has played under their name since 2002. However, Stephens and Vogel, who were 20 years old when Two Gallants were founded, have known each other since childhood and made music together when they were twelve. Initially, they performed at private parties and in department stores. Her debut album The Throes , released on Alive Records , was well received by critics not only in the USA. This gave the band the opportunity to release their second album, What the Toll Tells in 2006 on the larger Saddle Creek label.
