The 34th Street is a major street in New York City's borough Manhattan .

34th Street is in Midtown Manhattan and crosses the island from west to east. It also connects the Lincoln Tunnel on the west side of Manhattan with the Queens-Midtown Tunnel in the east.

On the West Side 34th Street from crossing the Hudson River to Eighth Avenue , the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen and between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue Koreatown . At the same time, it forms the southern boundary of the Garment District between Fifth and Ninth Avenue and the southern boundary of Murray Hill between Madison Avenue and the East River .

Like many major streets in New York City, 34th Street has its own bus routes ( M34 SBS and M34A SBS ) and four subway stops on Eleventh Avenue ( 34th Street (IRT Flushing Line) - under construction, Eighth Avenue (Lines A, C and E), Seventh Avenue (Lines 1, 2, and 3), Herald Square (Lines B, D, F, M, N, Q, R, and PATH ), and Park Avenue (Lines 4 and 6).

In April 2010, the New York City Department of Transportation proposed a Rapid Transit bus along 34th Street. In order to have a dedicated bus lane , the street would have to be converted into a one-way street . It would then run west on Sixth Avenue west and east on Fifth Avenue east. This would create a space for pedestrians between Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

At the west end of the street is the Hudson River , West Midtown Ferry Terminal , West 30th Street Heliport , Hudson River Greenway , West Side Highway, and the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center - New York City's premier convention center .

34th Street is a major shopping street, and although it experienced a decline in the 1970s, it picked up with new stores in the late 20th century. A giant video screen and neon sign at the intersection of 34th Street and Broadway gives the impression of a mini Times Square . Between Seventh Avenue and Broadway is the famous Macy’s department store , which also plays a role in the Christmas film Miracle on 34th Street and claims to be the largest department store in the world (“world's largest store”). The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade ends on 34th Street. Large chain stores can be found between 8th and 5th Avenues.

East of Herald Square , the influence of the East Side can be felt  with its high-rise office buildings in the Kips Bay and Murray Hill districts .

The Empire State Building is located on Fifth Avenue on one of the rare rock slabs made of pure Manhattan slate . For a long time it was the tallest building in New York City and dominated the city skyline.

At the east end of 34th Street are luxury tenement houses. On the East River is FDR Drive , the East River Greenway , which you can cycle to the south end of Manhattan, and East 34th Street Ferry Landing for the NY Waterway , SeaStreak and the East 34th Street Heliport .
