Baragiano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2580 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about 18 kilometers west-northwest of Potenza . Baragiano is part of the Comunità Montana Marmo Platano . The Avigliano flows into the Picerno on the southwestern municipal boundary .

history

Know the community through the archaeological locality Archeoparco del Basileus , an excavation site, located at the place where the people of the Lucanians to the Peucetians met.

The community was last hit by an earthquake in November 1980 in the seismically very active area.

State road 7 runs through the community . In Baragiano this crosses with Strada Statale 94 dir del Varco di Pietrastretta . There are also train stations in the main town of the municipality and in the locality of Franciosa on the railway line from Battipaglia via Potenza to Metaponto .
