Satriano di Lucania is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2291 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Potenza in Basilicata . The municipality is located about kilometers from Potenza . Satriano di Lucania is part of the Comunità montana Melandro and is located on the Parco nazionale dell'Appennino Lucano-Val d'Agri-Lagonegrese .

history

Satrianum was the ancient center of the Lukan area. Later, the Normans in particular fortified the settlement. From 1098 to 1808 Satriano was a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. Satriano has been a titular bishopric since 1969 . From the Middle Ages until 1887, the current settlement was named Petrafixa and Pietrafesa .
